I keep getting a bunch of errors. I know its me.Bad xml_19,and1 along with columns 10 and 0 respectively. WSA resv socket error code 0:866 and
ERROR news.astraweb.com - Unable to read Greetings from Server: Socket - Read From Server Failed
I use astraweb as my server. I have windows 7 home premium, plenty of room, speed and space. This was an upgrade earlier version worked fine.
Thanks.

Are you using SSL? What virus scanner and firewall do you use?

This is a common problem with Avast. Not sure you can tell it to leave Newsbin alone.
I typically install Microsoft's Security Essentials on my family's PC's.

You can try port 80 and see if that bypasses Avast. You typically have to reboot your machine when you disable Avast, otherwise it is still interfering.

well I finally got it going. I went back to the old Newsbin to make sure nothing else was bothering the operation of the program. I had to change to port 23 on Astraweb. Once I did that it started communicating and all works just fine, I also did get rid of avast and keep the other security stuff I have that keeps my computer safe just fine.

possibly something with your isp then as it sees port 23 as telnet traffic rather than nntp on port 119 or ssl 443/563

Right on Richy99, I re-installed avast, which I like, and no problemo.
